Avid skiers dream of it – a ski in, ski out chalet in Vail. The owners of this Vail getaway knew exactly what they wanted – a practical yet luxurious remodel that could grow through the years with their family. Designer Jamie Nusser of J Designs offered the perfect high-end eclectic sensibility for a show-stopping result.
Thanks to the home’s solid layout, most design changes were aesthetic. The largest transformation happened in the lowest level. Where previously resided a gym, the homeowners wanted a cozy room for the whole family. The resulting movie room features a cushy sofa reminiscent of a conversation pit and a lively-yet-intimate postmodern work.
The true heart of the design lies in the vibrant art throughout. The living room centers around a stunning yellow and azure leopard work by Hunt Slonem. The homeowner’s art collection provided a wealth of lively pieces full of movement throughout. A multimedia tapestry in the entryway balances perfectly against a stone wall, while graffiti-inspired art in the bunk room is perfectly cheeky.
White oak paneling throughout the home offers a warm color palette, grounding more effusive pops of color without compromising the classic mountain atmosphere. Additionally, it adds a mid-mod flair that pairs perfectly with the home’s vibrant art. Touches of black and oil-rubbed bronze hardware throughout provide grounding effects against the bright, snowy backdrop.
Nusser designed much of the furniture custom for the space. Low and plush with clean lines, much of the furniture invites relaxation after a long day on the slopes. With the great room as the focal point of the home, Nusser cleverly used the bespoke furniture to create distinct zones for living, eating, and relaxing. The resulting layout creates an easy flow between each area for family living. With cozy corners tucked everywhere, yet high-end finishes throughout, this home now offers the perfect blend of leisure and function.
