The yurt-inspired design was shaped by the high desert climate from the start. Concrete was chosen throughout for its ability to keep the home cool and hold up to constant activity.
Where the structure curves into circular yurt forms, wood paneling and ceiling elements were fitted precisely to meet the concrete floors. Getting it right required planning well before the first pour.
The 4,900 square foot home sits within a larger compound designed for every kind of guest. A barn, carport, boat and storage deck, dock, and campground with full hookups give the property range. Outside, native plantings and artificial turf replace what would have required irrigation and upkeep, practical choices for a home that runs without its owners most of the year.
