Contemporary and mid-century Modern

Gold Dust Peak

ABOUT THE PROJECT

LOCATION Vail Valley

The homeowners of this Vail-area retreat set out to accomplish several goals in the making of this custom home.  They wanted it to be original and unique, not your typical mountain modern aesthetic.  The house would need to provide a home for their extensive art collection from over 30 years of collecting.  The home would need to be a multigenerational home for their growing family.  That is a large list and how to incorporate all of these items was a neat challenge.

The views from this homesite were spectacular and capitalizing on them became an important task as well as designing this home to have an original and unique style.  The home, which was sculpted onsite nestles into the mountain-side with a combination of board form concrete, steel and oversized windows to take advantage of the views.  The layout provides ample spaces to showcase art as well as provide living areas that focused on family and entertaining.  The designer had to furnish the home with pieces that added to the art and home but also made it comfortable and fresh.   He was able to find elevated, quality pieces that reflected the midcentury aesthetic and gave each room a pop of interest.

The homeowners would be the first to tell you that they are very pleased with how the house works and flows and how it sits on the hillside amongst the native plantings.  They enjoy the views, sunsets and all of the local residents like the elk, foxes and even the occasional bear.
